Are You a Geek? (Infographic: Evolution of the Geek)

The term “Geek” has been around since the 14th century.  At that time in history, it was ascribed to those considered to be a fool.  In the 18th century, the word “Gecken” came to be used as an identifier of a circus performer– one who’s act included biting the head off of a live chicken.  It wasn’t until the 1950’s that things became a bit more genteel and to be called a “Geek” was akin to being associated with the technology obsessed.  Today, the connotation of obsession remains, but the narrow focus of technology has been lifted. “Geek-dom” applies to the gourmet-food obsessed, the Star-Wars obsessed, the Star-Trek obsessed and so on.

After the poll is an infographic describing the evolution of the geek and state of geek-dom today.  With that, I ask, Are you a geek?
